Cincinnati Airport

aka Cincinnati Northern Kentucky International Airport

aka CVG Airport

The Cincinnati Airport actually has several names. It's known as the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport for one. Why? Well, it's not actually located in Cincinnati, nor even in Ohio. That is an oft-used tricky Cincinnati trivia question. Cincinnati's location across the Ohio River from Kentucky is the reason the airport could be placed in another state and still serve the entire Cincinnati metropolitan area. In fact, the airport is just 13 miles from downtown Cincinnati.

Another piece of trivia revolves around a second name for the airport. Typically airports have three letter codes which are an abbreviation of the city where the airport is located. For example, the code for the Boston airport is BOS. The letters used for the Cincinnati Airport, CVG, might seem curious to visitors because they don't appear to have a connection to the word Cincinnati. Actually, they are a shortened version of the largest city near the airport when it was built in 1947 -- Covington, Kentucky. Astronaut Neil Armstrong, an airport board member in the 1970's, once declared CVG also stood for "Cincinnati Very Good." Our family would definitely agree with that sentiment.

The Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport serves the entire tristate area (Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana. If you are driving to the airport, take Exit 4 (State Route 212) off of I-275 (this is the beltway that makes a complete loop around Cincinnati).

If you're using a GPS navigator, you should enter CVG Airport or 2939 Terminal Drive, Hebron, KY 41048. Don't use the mailing address as that will probably confuse the little computer.

For snail mail, the address is Kenton County Airport Board, P.O. Box 752000, Cincinnati, OH 45275.

Artimis which stands for the Advanced Regional Traffic Interactive Management and Information Systems is the place to go to check for traffic and construction delays before heading to the airport.
