With temps nearing 100 degrees this week, Cincinnatians are desperate to keep cool. Here's an idea. Northland Ice Center has an indoor skating rink that is open year round. Their public skate times are from 2 TO 4 PM (every day) and 8 TO 10 PM (Friday/Saturday nights). It will cost $7.00 for adults and $5.00 for those 12 and under. There is no charge for renting the skates. It's located at 10400 Reading Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45241. Why not keep your cool and head on over there today!

It's Opening Day.!!

Cincinnati local news stumbled onto this terrific deal. Greater Cincinnati Independent Restaurants are sponsoring Restaurant Week March 11-20, 2011. They're offering 3-course meals for $26.11 at a number of locally owned establishments in the Greater Cincinnati area. Visit their website to access menus and make reservations. This is a great way to try that new restaurant you've been wanting to sample. The only catch is you have to sign up (their promise is no info is ever sold) and provide feedback about your restaurant experience. Don't miss this fabulous opportunity!

Cincinnati local news reports Reds Opening Day. is in March this year. The 31st to be exact. Don't miss out because you're used to an April start date. Word is the change was made so as to avoid going into November with playoff games. Let's just hope it's baseball weather on the 31st.

Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory's stint as an Undercover Boss will air this Sunday, March 6, 2011. Check it out at 9:00 p.m. EST on CBS (local channels 12 and 7). Mallory's TV claim to fame, to date, involved a poorly thrown baseball on Opening Day. Mayor Mallory dons dreads, a goatee, mustache and glasses to disguise his identity from city workers. Should be interesting to watch. DVR it if you can't catch it on Sunday night.

When is the next Tall Stacks? People write to me all the time with that question. Well, I'm not a prophet but I do know this. Tall Stacks is not held every year. It's actually held about every four years. That would put the next one in 2010. However, organizers have said it's a no go due to the fact that the event has lost money in recent years. 2011 is the 200th birthday of steamboating. Wouldn't that be a great year to bring Tall Stacks back? However, if some big investors don't step up to help finance Tall Stacks, it could be a while before Cincinnati sees this fine event return.

Remember that wacky show "WKRP in Cincinnati?" Today the first season is being released on DVD nationally. Cincinnati local news reports there is even going to be a little celebration on Fountain Square to commemorate the event. Since the opening scenes of the sitcom featured the fountain, it seems the perfect setting for this release party. If you loved the zany antics of Venus Flytrap, Johnny Fever, Herb Tarleck, Les Nessman and the rest of the WKRP cast, you gotta grab up this classic DVD. You might even learn something you didn't know about Cincinnati in one of these quirky episodes.

Today is Opening Day in Cincinnati local news! The Cincinnati Reds are playing the Chicago Cubs. It is an absolutely gorgeous day---warm and sunny. There is a parade that starts at 11:00 am. Better go for that if you plan on parking anywhere close to the stadium. Tickets may be hard to get for the opener if you don't already have them. Of course, for the right price, anything is possible. Why don't you ask your significant other to take you out to the ballgame today.

The Tall Stacks Director has reported that the event broke even. In 2003, they went $248,000 in the hole. 800,000 people attended this year. However, that was about 100,000 less than the number who attended in 2003. There were more school field trips this year though. An estimated 65,000 school children benefited from the lessons of Tall Stacks Cincinnati.

Cincinnati local news reports two seemingly great options for the weekend. The Fountain Square party and the Waynesville, Ohio Sauerkraut Festival. We definitely picked the wrong one. Fountain Square isn't done yet. All that was unveiled was the fountain which is nice, but as it was surrounded by construction still under way some of the effect got lost. The giant TV is way on top of a building and not that dramatic. The event got political and a so-called poet (don't want to give her free publicity by even naming her here) used profanity and crude language in the process. My twelve-year-old was with me and was stunned an adult would used language that would definitely get my daughter's mouth washed out with soap. Plus, my daughter said she could have written a poem about Cincinnati that was much better than the child-like, simplistic poem the so-called poet read. I'm sure once Fountain Square is completed it will be pretty and all the ugliness surrounding the fountain's new home will be forgotten.

You might want to head down to Fountain Square on Saturday to check out the new look. 3CDC (which stands for Cincinnati Center City Development Corporation) has been working hard to revitalize the area.
From what I understand there will be a brand new Tyler Davidson fountain and a giant TV screen just to mention a few of the upgrades.

The festivities to unveil the new look will be from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 14th. The Cincinnati Symphony, Opera, and Ballet will be performing. There will be lots of other speakers and performers. And, there will be fireworks to top it all off. Sounds like fun!

Cincinnati local news can report that Tall Stacks motored into town October 4-8. Every three years river boats from all over come to town. We enjoyed the event on Sunday. Living History re-enactments lined both shores (Cincinnati and Neport, Kentucky) of the Ohio River. This year more music was added.

There were lots of great photo opportunities. If you'd like to read our personal review of Tall Stacks, check out our Event Calendar.
